Greetings from Council Bluffs, Iowa. I have a fucking story for you guys: So I left Los Angeles around 8 in the morning yesterday, got to Phoenix around 9, and there I had to wait for two hours on my lay over. While in the airport, every tv was set to cnn, talking about the swine flu and to stay away from traveling and the southwestern states. Why they would have that on in an airport in Phoenix, I have no idea. I couldn't take listening to the tv any more, so I shut off my computer and went to the fox sports bar(equivalent of a espnzone) to watch a couple of games and drink a couple of beers. I had a little buzz going as I boarded the plane, ended up sitting next to an old retired man and we talked about golfing and which courses are nice in Omaha, bottom line, I wasn't even think about the swine flu and recessed air. Sounds alright, right? Well, the lady across the aisle from me and the old man, projectile vomits across the aisle on the old man, getting it on me, and another old man in front of us, mind you the plane's engine is not even on at this point. Then lady apologizes, says she's a nervous flyer, and she didn't puke downwards because she didn't want to mess up her purse. The stewardess asked us if we minded if she stayed on the flight, and the two old men said they didn't. So, I spoke up and told her that I did because if she's blowing chunks before the engine is even on, what is she gonna do at 30,000 feet? Throughout the rest of the flight the stewardess was mad dogging me, like I was an asshole because I didn't want to get puked on... AGAIN! I got some free drink tickets out of it though, but I mean shit.

Kobe Bryant won the MVP award in the 07-08 season, for the first time, despite having statistics to have won the past couple years. Kobe just reunited with Shaq last night in an interesting All-Star Game where they shared the MVP award. I will have a pic of Kobe/Shaq and the trophy in a little bit.

In the 1968 Olympic Games at Mexico City, on 16th October, Tommie Smith won the gold medal for the 200 m in a world record time 19.83 s. He and a teammate, John Carlos, who earned the bronze medal, gave a Black Power salute while receiving their medals. Silver medalist Peter Norman, a white Australian, donned a human rights badge on the podium in support of their protest. Some people (particularly IOC president Avery Brundage) felt that a political statement had no place in the international forum of the Olympic Games. In an immediate response to their actions, Smith and Carlos were suspended from the U.S. team by Brundage and voluntarily moved from the Olympic Village. Brundage, who was president of the United States Olympic Committee in 1936, had made no objections against Nazi salutes during the Berlin Olympics. Those who opposed the protest said the actions disgraced all Americans. Supporters, on the other hand, praised the men for their bravery. The men's gesture had lingering effects for all three athletes, the most serious of which were death threats against Smith, Carlos and their families.

Road Trip 2007-01

I originally had a post here, but the pictures were not sized right. I took them off, ran them through some auto-fix features on photoshop and am throwing them back on here. I am currently going through an old hard drive of a computer that decided to randomly quit on me, so expect more pictures from these road trips. These pictures are from the first road trip I went on in 2007 with the band a District of Evolution. We started the trip heading south to San Diego, then to Pheonix, Arizona, where we would stay for two days. The next destination was Roswell, New Mexico, which was an interesting event. DOE played with two really good bands, but no one showed up except four kids, that actually bought cds and shirts off the bands. We wanted to get out of here asap, so we drove off until we found an isolated spot to light off the fire works we had bought earlier in the day. One of the mortars flipped on its side and basically lit up a small fire in the brush. We all ran over there to put it out faster than the firework before us, all except Jon who was filming the whole thing. We left that spot to sleep in the van at a rest stop somewhere in New Mexico. The next day was my turn to drive the van and we went across Colorado, for two days, to arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the next show was. Here we met a band named Loom, who turned out to be awesome people. They let us crash at their house in SLC and tried to set up another show for the band, however everything fell through with that. The next morning we drove through the thickest forests imaginable, in Oregon, until we ended up on a highway that ran across the Columbia River. Along the way we stopped at the Multnomah Falls, because you basically have to if you see it, once you see it, you will understand what I am talking about, it's beautiful! We made it to Portland, Oregon just in time for the show, we had just enough time to get everything onstage and have a couple locals tell us where to get the best hookers. We didn't ask them where they were or having any intention on soliciting them at all. Anyways, I just thought it was a funny thing to say to someone who just arrived in a new town. Their show that night was really good, and the bar was really cool to hang out at. They had $1 "mystery shots" and $2 Sessions beers, which I took full advantage of. The way from Portland to Reno, Nevada was the longest drive that we had and the weather started to get bad on the drive down from Oregon. We ran into some girls from Grants Pass, Oregon, who convinced us to stay the night in that town, where those girls would end up buying us all a hotel and alcohol. We ended up hitting some snow in Susanville, where there is literally a Numero Uno's and a Ralphs and that's it. We end up arriving in Reno safe, despite the harsh conditions. We have some fun around the town of Reno, asking the locals stupid questions and getting hit up by prostitutes in the Holiday Inn Casino. The drive from Reno to Vegas is nothing like the drive I'm used to from LA to Vegas. There is literally nothing in between there except maybe two gas stations and a couple bunny ranches, no hills, trees, people, animals, nothing. It's really cool, especially for a city boy such as myself. Las Vegas was great, good turn out, good times, good food finally, and it was only one day away from sleeping in my bed. The drive home was a familiar one and I got more excited with every sign that was familiar to me. Here are some pics!!!
